How to play Bagh-Chal
The board
- Pieces sit on the 25 points where the lines cross and move only along drawn lines — every point connects to its orthogonal neighbours, and diagonals exist only where the board draws them.
- The four tigers start on the four corners; the twenty goats start off the board.
- One player commands the tigers, the other the goats. The room admin picks who plays the tigers in the lobby (or leaves it random). Goats always move first.
Placing goats
- Each of the goat player's first twenty turns places one goat on any empty point.
- No goat may move until all twenty are placed.
- The tigers move normally from their very first turn — placement never restricts them.
Moving
- Once all goats are placed, a goat turn moves one goat along a line to an adjacent empty point.
- A tiger turn moves one tiger to an adjacent empty point, or jumps a goat.
- Goats never jump and never capture.
Tiger jumps
- A tiger jumps an adjacent goat in a straight line, landing on the empty point directly beyond it, and eats the goat.
- The jump must follow a single board line — no bending at the goat, and no jumping where no line is drawn.
- One jump per turn: there are no chain jumps.
Winning
- The tigers win the moment they have eaten five goats.
- The goats win by trapping the tigers so that no tiger can move or jump on the tiger turn.
- If the goats have no legal move on their turn (rare), the tigers win.
- If the same position occurs three times with the same side to move, the game is a draw.
