Spades — play online free with friends
Bid with your partner, break spades, and dodge the bags — first team to the target wins.
The classic American partnership trick-taking game for exactly 4 players. You and the player across the table are a team: bid your tricks, make your combined contract, and mind your bags — sandbagging costs 100 points. Bid Nil for a high-risk 100-point bonus. First team to the target score wins.

How to play Spades
Teams, the deal and bidding
- Four players in two partnerships — the host picks the pairings in the lobby (by default the 1st and 3rd players to join vs the 2nd and 4th). Your partner sits across the table and your scores are combined.
- Everyone gets 13 cards from a standard 52-card deck. The deal rotates one seat each hand.
- Starting on the dealer's left, each player bids the number of tricks they will win: 0 to 13. Your team's contract is the sum of you and your partner's bids.
- A bid of 0 is Nil: you promise to take no tricks at all. Make it for +100; take even one trick and it's −100. Your partner still plays for their own bid.
Playing tricks
- The player on the dealer's left leads the first trick.
- You may not lead spades until they are "broken" — someone has played a spade on another suit's lead — unless spades are all you have left.
- You must follow the led suit if you can; otherwise play any card, including a spade.
- Spades are always trump: the highest spade wins the trick, otherwise the highest card of the led suit. The trick winner leads the next one.
- Arrange your hand however you like: drag cards to reorder them, and tap Sort ♠♥♣♦ to group suits — spades first, colors alternating, high cards first. Only you see your arrangement.
Scoring
- Make your team's contract (combined tricks ≥ combined bid): score 10 points per trick bid. Fall short and you lose 10 per trick bid instead.
- Every trick over your contract scores 1 point but also adds a bag. Collect 10 bags and your team loses 100 points (the bag count keeps the remainder).
- A successful Nil adds 100 to the team; a failed one costs 100. A Nil bidder's tricks never count toward the partner's contract, but each one is a bag for the team.
Winning the game
- The first team to reach the target score at the end of a hand wins — the host picks 250, 300 or 500 in the lobby (300 by default).
- If both teams cross in the same hand, the higher total wins; a dead tie means one more hand.
