Dhumbal — play online free with friends
Keep your five cards light and call Dhumbal at 5 or less — get undercut and it’s +25.
If you know the classic Yaniv, you already know the idea — Dhumbal is TableTop's original take on the same style of game, free to play online.
Nepal’s favourite shedding game. Keep your five cards as light as you can: every turn throw cards away and draw a replacement, and once your hand is down to 5 points or less, call “Dhumbal!” to end the round. Lowest hand scores nothing — but get tied or undercut and you eat a 25-point penalty. Low score wins.

How to play Dhumbal
Taking a turn
- Throw away one card, two or more cards of the same rank, or a run of 3+ consecutive cards in one suit (like 4-5-6 of hearts). Aces are low: A-2-3 works, K-A-2 does not.
- Then draw a replacement: take the top of the deck, or pick up a card the previous player just threw — from a run, only one of its two end cards.
- Your throw stays face up for the next player to pick from; older throws are out of play until the deck runs dry and they are reshuffled.
Card points
- Ace = 1, number cards = face value.
- Face cards depend on the house rule picked in the lobby: J = 11, Q = 12, K = 13 (the standard), or the lighter J = 0, Q = 10, K = 10.
- Your hand total is just the sum of your cards — the lower the better.
Calling Dhumbal
- At the start of your turn (before throwing), if your hand totals 5 or less (or the lobby’s chosen threshold) you may call “Dhumbal!” — everyone reveals their hands.
- If yours is strictly the lowest: you score 0 and every other player adds their hand total to their score.
- If anyone ties or beats you, you are caught: you add your own hand total plus a 25-point penalty, and everyone else scores 0.
Winning
- Points are bad. Rounds continue until someone’s total crosses the target (100 by default) — then the player with the lowest total wins.
- In a single-round game, the round’s scores decide it straight away.
- Tip: dump kings and queens early, and call with a margin — a total of 2 or 3 is much safer than calling right at 5.
